About the painting

Large, green circlular watercolour painting of tiny fish by artist Kiri Jones. Breath-taking when hanging on the wall especially with the wooden circular frame.

‘When the Symphony begins’ was originally painted to contribute to a charity auction to help the McKenzie Centre, a special education facility that helps our middle child who has a genetic condition called CDLS (Cornelia De Lange Syndrome).

The circle design represents the nature of our experience of time. I named it ‘When the symphony begins’ because I think every person’s life, whether they are disabled or not is its own symphony. My daughter’s symphony is unique to her with its own patterns and beauty.

I use repetition and shading to create bold shapes and 3 dimensional images where simplicity and complexity merge just as they do in nature.

The Inanga Series is a distinct, varied and playful series of highly detailed artworks created using watercolour paint and indian ink.

If you are interested in commissioning me for a similar work the contact me on my contacts page or by email: kiri@kirijones.co.nz and we can discuss the details.

NOTE: I am quite a private person but I have intentionally chosen to mention my daughters condition in the hope that other parents with a new diagnosis of CDLS, find at least one other person out there who understands what they are going though (even if it's through a weird art website from a stranger in NZ). There is very little information out there about the condition, it effects every person slightly differently too! It's very rare, and when you initially get your diagnosis it shakes your world up a bit.

If you are this parent or family member, please don't hesitate to reach out and make a connection, I'm happy to have a chat. Welcome to the family.
